The report, which was published in 2024, showed that the two largest chains were able to save shoppers $0.19 to $1.93 per 30-day supply for each 10-month supply of the drugs they sell.
Target has the best price for one generic drug, Viagra, in terms of the average retail price of $0.45 per 30-day supply of each of the 10-month supplies.
"It's a lot of pressure on the Walgreens business to compete with CVS for the market position," said Michael Schlossman, a Walgreens spokesman.
Walmart said in a statement: "We are working with the U. Department of Justice to seek additional steps to address the pricing disparities in the retail supply of sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, which has been a significant contributor to drug price increases in recent months."
